Do You Pre-Workout?

This is something that I didn’t know much about when I began my fitness journey. A pre-workout is a supplement that you take before you workout. It was also something that mostly bodybuilders did. Many people are doing before they workout now. I admit when I began I did not do this at all.

A pre-workout is a powder, pill or snack bar that you take about 30-45 minutes before you exercise. The purpose is to help stimulate you so that you can improve your workout performance. No you can’t eat a candy bar or drink coffee and get the same effects.

One of the biggest benefits for me is that I will burn more calories and feel more accomplished. Nothing is worse than working like a dog and seeing no results or feeling as though you can’t finish a full workout. However I did talk with my doctor before I began taking anything.

This biggest reason is that many of the pre-workout supplements contain caffeine and my doctor told me she never recommends them. However that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t work for me and if I was going to take them to be careful. My brother uses them and loves them. He said they helped him build muscle and get more out of his workouts. I was torn but thought I would give them a try.

WHAT DO I USE

I recently began using IdealLean from IdealFit. Please note I am not endorsing this or suggesting you buy it. In fact, that link does not even include an affiliate or referral code. I am simply sharing what I am currently using. I just began using this and it is still too early to tell you that I love it or not.

It’s still early days but as I mentioned above I have noticed that I am able to finish a workout and not feel like a failure. I will say that I didn’t pick this one first. I tried a different one and after one dose I knew they weren’t for me. I could literally see my heart pounding in my chest.

I choose the Ideal Lean because it wasn’t full of a bunch of crap. I did adjust how I take it because all of them together is a bit much for me. I do the pre-workout before my workout then the protein shake after. I do the BCAAs later in day. That is what works best for me. I also got just the plain vanilla shake because I like to add fruit to my shakes. Not all flavors mix well with the fruit or whatever. Sometimes I add a little bit of peanut butter.

WHAT DOES MY DOCTOR SAY?

At this moment all of my doctors are okay with the Ideal Lean. Again, I just began it so that is something that could change at any moment. It was something that I really want to give a try and while my primary doctor wasn’t thrilled about it she respected my decision. We will just have to wait and see how it all goes.

Pre-workout supplements are a very personal decision or each one of us. Some people use them religiously without fail. While others don’t bother and recommend them. Whatever you decide is up to you but remember to always discuss it with your doctor.
